KATAS RAJ TEMPLES

Katas Raj Temples are Hindu temples in Katas village near Choa Saidan Shah, about 40 km from Chakwal City. The temples aged back from the eras of the Hindu Shahis (615-950 CE) and is dedicated to their lord Shiva. According to Hindu believes, Krishna himself laid the foundation of these temples and made Shivaling in it. There is a sacred pond amongst these temples. According to a Brahmanical story, pond was made by tears in grief of Shiva at the death of his wife Sati. The Hindu pilgrims bathe in the pool to seek forgiveness. The site, known as Satghara which means seven houses, originally housed seven small ancient temples and a Buddhist stupa.
